(KSL News) Hallucinogenic mushrooms disguised as candy caramels landed two Utahns in jail.
Authorities in Utah and in California teamed up to bust a substantial drug ring networking in Orem and Provo, Utah, and Arcata, California.
The case started with an undercover officer purchasing the drugs in Provo. That led to the arrest of Taran Newson, of Orem. Further investigation led police to a home in Arcata, California.
Authorities believe the mushrooms were made into candy in Arcata then shipped to Utah.
Ammon Wilkinson, of Provo, was arrested on a federal warrant for conspiracy to distribute drugs. Authorities seized some 300 "drug candies" in Provo, along with candy molds, hash oil, Ecstasy and marijuana.
