SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- More than one-thousand, 200 acres in eastern Utah could become an off-road vehicle park under a Bureau of Land Management plan.
It would provide special venues for off-roaders, drag racers, rock climbers and ultralight aircraft.
Approval could be granted by summer to allow Uintah County to develop the park, about four-point-five miles east of Vernal.
The B-L-M would give Uintah County the land for the park, to be called the Buckskin Hills Recreation Area. Private groups would be responsible for constructing the various parts.
An environmental assessment found no reason to block the deal, and there were few negative comments about it during public review.
B-L-M and county officials say the park would divert off-roaders from protected lands.
