KANAB — Three people were killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 89 north of Kanab Friday night.
Utah Department of Public Safety spokesman Jesse Valenzuela said about 8:20 p.m. a southbound vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes for an unknown reason and struck an on-coming vehicle head-on.
The second vehicle spun out after being the collision, and was then hit again by a third vehicle also traveling northbound.
The female driver of the car that crossed into oncoming traffic and a female passenger in the vehicle that was hit head-on, were both killed at the scene.
The male driver of the second vehicle was taken to Kane County Hospital in critical condition where he later died, Valenzuela said.
A father and son in the third vehicle were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. he said.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation Saturday. Names of the victims were not immediately available pending notification of family members.
