Gene Kennedy Reporting A man holds his mother hostage, terrorizing her for two days. She escapes, but it doesn't end there.
"He retreated into the house and said he would burn it down."
A 44-year-old man is in jail this morning after holding his mother captive, then holding police at bay for hours. It started Monday in Roy. And it didn't end until late last night, when the man finally surrendered.
Until last night, police didn't know the mother was being held hostage.
The son has a history of violence against his mother. She has a protective order which says he can't visit the home. But Monday night, Roy police say he violated that order.
Police say she was assaulted and terrorized by her son since Monday night. Luckily, she wasn't seriously injured. She was able to escape the home, ran to a neighbor's house and called police around 6:00 last night.
When officers arrived, the son went hack into the home and wouldn't cooperate with police. He threatened to burn down the house, then started turning the lights on and off, and walking in and out of the home.
Police spent more than an hour trying to talk him out. They called the home, and the suspect answered, yelled at them and hung up. He finally started to talk to them at from the front door.
Around 11:00 last night, the man peacefully surrendered. Police checked the home to make sure he didn't leave anything behind that would put his mother in danger. Then they took the man to jail, booking him on charges of threatened arson, assault, and violating a protective order.
Police say this man has a criminal past including domestic violence charges. And according to police, he's been combative with them before.
