(KSL News) Lightning started a house fire in Bountiful this afternoon. It happened as the storm blew through just before 2 p.m.
The lightning hit the roof of the home, lighting the attic on fire.
The family was at a neighbor's house at the time. They ran home and let the family dog out. Firefighters also rescued two parakeets.
South Davis Metro Fire crews managed to contain the worst damage to the attic, gables and roof of the home.
We're told neighbors are now helping the family salvage valuables, food and clothing. The family will be sleeping somewhere else until the damage is repaired.
