Nishi Gupta reporting A man and a woman went out for a weekend dinner. Now they're recovering from bad burns.
It happened at the Bohemian Brewery and Grill near 7200 S. State Street in Midvale.
Fire investigators say as the woman grabbed for her coat, the bottom of her dress brushed the flames of a candle The candle was one of several displayed on the base of a nearby fireplace.
Workers say the woman was engulfed by flames in a matter of seconds. Everyone rushed to help.
Chris Auchubon, Helped put out fire: "Her boyfriend was there, trying to pat her down, we got her down on the ground as quickly as we could. I was the first one over there, patting her down myself. It just so happened there was a table cloth, grabbed it and tossed it over there trying to help out."
Other workers got fire extinguishers. They were able to put out the flames. But the woman was already badly injured.
Capt. Jay Thomas, Midvale Fire Dept.: "She had significant burns to her upper legs and torso, about 25 percent of her body. Most of those burns were second degree burns."
Second degree burns mean her skin was blistered. Her date was trying to douse the flames with his bare hands, so he also received burns to his hands.
Officials say they did not want to disclose the victim's names. The woman is at the University of Utah's burn clinic, the man was released last night.
