OREM — Timpview overcame a lackluster effort through three quarters to notch a 29-14 come-from-behind win over Orem Friday night.

With 1:35 remaining in the third quarter, Orem's Tyler Camp capped a 98-yard drive that included Kaleb Egbert gaining 55 yards on the ground with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Mike Mua. The score gave Orem the lead for the first time at 14-10.

The Thunderbirds responded with an 80-yard drive that resulted in a 34-yard touchdown pass to Austin Fullmer less than a minute into the fourth quarter. The Tigers blocked the extra point, which gave the T-Birds a precarious 16-14 lead.

Timpview's defense forced a three-and-out on Orem's next possession and received the Tigers punt at midfield. The T-Birds methodically marched down the field where Jake Lloyd connected on a third-and-goal at the 15 with Rickey Shumway. It was the second time the two had connected for a touchdown in the game. The missed two-point conversion left Orem within one score at 22-14.

"It shouldn't always be that," said Timpview coach Louis Wong about the Lloyd-Shumway connection. "We shouldn't have to rely on Rickey. There are other players. Jake needs to know to trust his other receivers too. He's a great player, but we've got other great players if he looks elsewhere."

The Tigers had almost six minutes remaining to drive the length of the field for the game-tying score. Four consecutive running plays resulted in a first-and-10 at the Tigers' own 46. Timpview came with the pressure when Camp dropped back to pass on first down and came up with an 8-yard sack. On second down, the T-Birds sacked Camp again. That was followed by two incompletions, resulting in the Tigers turning the ball over on downs.

Three plays later Jonathan Ghosoph found the end zone from 15 yards out to give Timpview 19 unanswered points and the win.

"Why do we have to wait until a crucial situation?" said Wong about the big defensive stops in the fourth quarter. "Why can't we make that play all the time? We have the ability, but do we have the heart?"

Wong was clearly frustrated by his team's penalties and turnovers early in the game.

"There was no excitement and no emotion on the sideline," added Wong of his team's first-half demeanor.

Wong said he turned over a cooler full of Gatorade at halftime to enthuse some energy into his team, and then called them together for a quick team huddle between the third and fourth quarters. It apparently worked as the T-Birds came out in the second half and the fourth quarter specifically with much more energy.

Lloyd started the game by throwing an interception to Orem's Jake Miller. He threw a second interception to Brady Call late in the first quarter and then a third to Miller again late in the first half.

Orem got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Camp connected with Quin Ringer on a 45-yard touchdown pass. That pulled the Tigers within three at 10-7.

Timpview improved to 5-2 on the season while Orem fell to 4-3.
