Upcoming Play Creates a Stir at the U

Mary Richards, KSL NewsradioWe can't say the name of the play on the radio, but it includes three derogatory racial slurs in a row. The three performers say they take on racial issues through personal stories, songs and jokes.

But some U of U students and faculty say the play uses an excessive amount of hurtful words and stereotypes, and shouldn't be shown on campus. Concerned student and faculty met last week with Kingsbury Hall officials and expressed their concern about the show.

The production plays on the stereotypes of several racial groups, often using language found offensive by many to make its points. It's scheduled to run November 2 and 3 at Kingsbury Hall.
