PARK CITY — Starting in October, commuters will have a new way to travel from Summit County to the Salt Lake Valley.
The Utah Transit Authority announced Thursday the launch of a commuter bus route between Park City and Salt Lake City.
The Park City to Salt Lake City Connect service will officially begin transporting passengers on Monday, Oct. 3, and will be the first public transit connection between Salt Lake and Summit counties.
For locals like Sandee Flick, Jeremy Ranch, the drive and the gas it takes to drive to work at the University of may persuade her to take the bus instead.
"I drive down three days a week, maybe I could just take the bus," she said.
UTA officials said the route would initially offer three trips in each direction for the morning commute and three return trips in each direction during the evening commute. More trips will be added in December in support of the upcoming ski season.
In Summit County, the service will include stops at ski resorts, the Park City Old Town Transit Center, Kimball Junction and Jeremy Ranch. In Salt Lake County, stops will include Salt Lake Central Station and the University of Utah.
Vehicles for the route will be UTA express coaches equipped with bike racks and free Wi-Fi. Fares for the new service will be $5.50 for a one-way trip, with 30-day passes available for $242. Standard UTA passes will not be accepted for the new service.
The route will cost between $600,000 and $800,000 for the first year. Eventually, UTA hopes it'll generate enough ridership to pay for itself, but for now, Park City and Summit County are splitting half of the initial cost.
