Mary Richards reportingA Lehi toddler is recovering after drinking household cleaner. Now, health officials are sending a new warning about such poisonings.
Police say the 14-month-old boy probably thought the cleaner looked like grape kool-aid or juice. He found it under the kitchen sink. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Marti Mulero with the Utah Poison Control Center says children can easily get to things under the sink but there's a danger when cleaners are in use too.
Marty Malheiro, Utah Poison Control Center: "The person using it has just been distracted. Either the doorbell or the phone has rung; they turn their back, and the toddler, the child, someone gets into it."
Mulero says the Poison Control Center responds to thousands of calls every year, and about 60 percent involve children under six.
