MIDWAY — The Homestead and Zermatt resorts Wednesday announced a partnership with Utah-based Gemstone Hotels and Resorts to provide hotel management services to both properties.

Headquartered in Park City, Gemstone manages complex destination resorts as well as luxury urban hotels.

In addition, the Homestead and Zermatt Resorts will expand their offerings in the areas of arts, education, health, well-being and recreation, according to a news release.

“These new resort offerings will showcase original, unique and highly sought after guest experiences in the distinctive natural setting of these two Alpine destinations,” said Steve Eddington, managing partner of the Homestead and Zermatt resorts. “By making these strategic changes, we are certain the resorts will enhance their positioning in the marketplace and will broaden our customer base of guests from all over the world who desire peace, relaxation and rejuvenation in a world-class setting.”

Last November, the 155-acre Homestead Resort was acquired by Legacy Resorts LLC just a few months after Legacy Resorts purchased the 404-room Swiss-themed Zermatt Resort located directly across the street. At the time, some investors in the Zermatt objected to an auction held in August 2010 because they said the company that was selling the resort was the same company that was buying it.

Located in Wasatch County between Park City and Sundance, the Homestead was founded in 1886 by Swiss-born Simon Schneitter and includes 121 guest rooms and cottages, meeting space, a spa, two restaurants, an 18-hole golf course and the 55-foot limestone geothermal hot springs called "The Crater." The neighboring Zermatt Resort has 404 rooms in a facility that highlights the area's Swiss heritage with indoor-outdoor swimming, tennis, geothermal hotpots and nearby skiing and golf.

Gemstone currently manages 14 properties in California, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, Colorado, Utah, West Virginia and New York.

“We are very excited to be collaborating with the Homestead and Zermatt on the evolution of these wonderfully distinctive resorts," said Jeff McIntyre, managing partner of Gemstone Hotels and Resorts.
