PROVO — BYU's singing group Vocal Point takes center stage on national television Monday night on NBC's "The Sing Off."
The singers say they're excited and nervous to see themselves in the national spotlight, even though they taped shows this summer and know what happens for the most part.
It all started when an NBC producer saw the nine singers perform at an international competition and extended an invitation.
"(The producer said, ‘We're going to be doing another season of "The Sing Off." Maybe you guys would like to audition,'" group member McKay Crockett recalled. "So we got an audition tape together, sent it in, and they called us back and said, 'Hey, we would like you to come be a part of the show.'"

For 20 years, the group has been part of many shows on campus and beyond. As singers graduate, others step in. They say wherever they perform, they know they always represent BYU and their faith, through long days of work.
"Luckily for us, we got to take Sundays off — which was really, really nice for us — where the other groups had to work every Sunday,"said group member Tyler Sterling. "But outside of Sundays, it was 12 16-hour days, just constantly doing wardrobe and camera, blocking and rehearsing; but it was great."
For years, Vocal Point has spread its musical message via the Internet. With appearances on "The Sing Off," who knows what will happen next.
"I think this is going to upload our YouTube counts by millions!" group member Ross Welch said.
So Monday night, they, too, will be watching — curious, just like regular audience members.
"I'm just excited to see how my face looks on TV," Welch laughed.
"The Sing Off" premieres Monday night on KSL TV at 7:00 — it's a 2-hour show. If you live near BYU campus, you may want to join some of the singers in the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Center to watch the show.
