ROOSEVELT — A motorcyclist died Sunday in Roosevelt after he was struck by a van.
Clint Perank, 46, was riding a Harley-Davidson west on U.S. Highway 40 about 8 p.m. when Jay Barry attempted to turn his Chevrolet van left onto 2000 West and hit Perank head-on, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
Perank, of Myton, Duchesne County, sustained massive injuries. He was taken to Uintah Basin Medical Center, where he died about 40 minutes after the crash.
Barry, who was uninjured, could be heard sobbing at the scene, and at one point dropped to his hands and knees, crying. The Orem man was consoled by his son, 30-year-old Brad Barry, who was a passenger in the van, and by a woman who arrived at the scene a short time later.
Troopers say Jay Barry failed to yield to Perank. A citation is pending.
