WEST VALLEY CITY — Police are trying to find out why a nearly naked 4-year-old boy was walking by himself along a sidewalk early Tuesday.
A concerned resident called police just after 1 a.m. Officers found a 4-year-old boy walking alone in the area wearing next to nothing, said West Valley Police Sgt. Mike Powell.
"Four years old is awfully small to be running around the streets at any time of day or night," Powell said.
After an unsuccessful attempt to locate the boy's parents or guardian, he was taken to the Christmas Box House.
Several hours later, West Valley police received a call from the Crisis Support Center. Powell said the CSC had received a call from a person who had information about the child and his family.
"What involvement the crisis center may or may not have, what involvement the parents may or may not have, why it was that we were contacted by the crisis center versus the parents; all of that's gonna be looked at," Powell said.
At this point it seems the boy might have wandered away from the crisis center, but police are trying to confirm that. Meanwhile, authorities returned the boy to his parents.
"We're also concerned for the overall environment for this young child," Powell said. "We want to be able to identify any problems that we need to be aware of and we need to be involved in, and really make certain this child can be brought back to a safe environment."
