Do you like French fries? How about fresh-cut fries from potatoes grown from our sister state, Idaho, known for their quality potatoes? That's exactly what Five Guys Burgers and Fries offers.

Owner/operator Steve Hawes and his business partner Darryl Nieder, who own 22 stores throughout Utah and other states, say this company has a complete focus on quality and freshness. They believe in buying local as much as possible and helped create an arrangement to buy buns from a local bakery. They also buy potatoes from local growers. This is good for Utah since a dollar spent on a Utah product has the effect of adding up to $6 into our economy.

Steve says there is an art to French fries. They hand cut the fries every day. At Five Guys, they won't let the fries sit around so these fries are fresh!! Each store goes through anywhere from 500 to 750 pounds of potatoes per day. When you order, there's a sign with the name of the grower who provided that day's potatoes. One of their suppliers in Idaho is a fifth-generation potato farmer.

One of the best practices for Five Guys Burgers and Fries is a secret shopper program designed to reward employees. Twice a week the diner goes into each store and grades the restaurant on cleanliness, service and hospitality which Steve says is the key to their business success. What makes this so appealing is the program is designed to catch the folks doing the job right, not to tattle tale.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is helping with job creation and job sustainability. They're putting over 250 Utahns to work and hire more all the time.

When you're in the burger business, you have to differentiate. Think about it: everyone has a burger on their menu so your success depends on creating a destination operation. It's simple, at Five Guys Burgers and Fries they provide quality food, at a great price, in a welcoming atmosphere, with happy and engaged employees. It's no wonder they were just chosen as Zagat's Best Burger for the second year in a row.
