Tom Callan, KSL Newsradio Ogden's gang problem is now so serious that one hospital is calling for armed guards.
The Ogden Regional Medical Center has inked a deal with the Weber County Sheriff's Office. The contract will provide armed security so rival gangs don't bring their violent grudges to the hospital's front door.
"If there's a gang member that is injured and taken to the hospital, rival gang members or fellow gang members may create a security concern," Undersheriff Kevin McLeod said.
The contract with the hospital is good for one year.
"The contract requires or gives us a time period not to exceed two to three hours to respond," McLeod added.
The current guards at Ogden Regional are unarmed.
