PARK CITY — Police say distracted driving and speed may have contributed to an accident that left a 37-year-old Park City woman in extremely critical condition Monday and killed the horse she was riding.
A 16-year-old driving an SUV struck the horse and the woman, who has not been identifed, from behind on 8400 Silver Creek Road in Park City around 2:30 p.m., according to police.
The woman suffered "severe head trauma as a result (of) the collision," and was transported by helicopter to a Salt Lake area hospital, according to a Summit County Sheriff's press release. The horse died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured, police said. No charges have been filed at this time.
