SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah residents should prepared for an earthshaking event.
That's according to earthquake experts, who say Utah remains at high risk for a major quake.
Utah already has about 200 minor quakes a year, though most of them are not strong enough to be felt. A seismic belt runs from southern Utah, through the Salt Lake Valley and into Idaho. A major fault system runs along the base of the Wasatch Front, and experts say it's primed to let loose.
But don't go diving under the nearest desk just yet.
The probability of a major quake during the next 50 years is between four percent and eight percent. However, members of a Utah Science Center panel in Salt Lake City last night say that's reason enough to take precautions.
