(KSL News) The wife of a miner in Price is starting a petition in support of the coal industry.

Karen Bacco says she wants the government to hear the concerns she and other residents have.

"At this point, we're just hoping that we can save the community," she said. "If they shut down our coal mines, we don't have Carbon and Emery Counties.

"We welcome them to come in and look at the safety of our mines. We feel that our mines are safe, otherwise I wouldn't let my husband go into the mines. He would not be in there."

Scott Matheson Jr., chairman of Utah's Mine Safety Commission, said today it is important that the group has good communications with miners' families.
