SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Three years after ranking last in the nation for home price appreciation rates, Utah is now among the top-20.
Utah ranked 18th in home price increases last year. A new federal report shows Utah home prices rose an average of 13-point-four percent between the fourth quarter of 2004 and the last three months of 2005. That's just above the national average of 13 percent.
Much of Utah's increase can be attributed to the red-hot real estate market of St. George. The area is ranked fourth among 275 metropolitan areas, with a home-price increase of 35-point-three percent.
Salt Lake City was ranked 100th in appreciation, followed by Provo-Orem, number 138, and Ogden-Clearfield, number 149.
