Keith McCord ReportingJust like in Torino, Day 17 in Salt Lake City was the final day--Closing Ceremonies, time to put a bow on the package that was the Olympic Winter Games.
The games in Salt Lake wrapped up with a big bang, literally. Following the Closing Ceremonies at Olympic Stadium, 9,553 shells produced an incredible show above the east bench. But the work began much earlier.
Here's how some of those shells looked, as they were being loaded into the launchers.
Jim Souza, Pyro Spectaculars by Souza: "This is a 24-inch shell. It's one of the largest ever built and to be fired in the world."
Fireworks experts from three companies put the show together, thrilled by the opportunity to show their stuff to the entire world. But being right underneath them in person was not to be forgotten; the booms shook you to the bone.
Larry Ganson, SLOC: "It's been a very successful games, why not go out with a big bang?"
Why not indeed! And that's the way the Salt Lake Games concluded four years ago.
