HURRICANE — The body of a 17-year-old was recovered Friday morning at Quail Creek State Park.

Tory Jones, of St. George, was reported missing Thursday night when he became separated from his youth group at Quail Creek Reservoir, said Laura Melling, Sand Hollow Complex Park manager.

Jones had been boating with his group when he swam to the east shore, Melling said. His friends on the boat saw him reach the shore and wave back but when the group was preparing to leave the park he could not be found.

"When they came back to pick up the kids he was not there," Melling said.

Officials initiated a search and located the boy's body between 10:30 and 11 a.m. Friday. He was found 250 feet from the east shore in 24 feet of water, Melling said.

The exact cause of death is still being determined, but Melling said there were no visible injuries and he is presumed to have drowned.
