SALT LAKE CITY — Two men are facing murder charges for allegedly stabbing another man and leaving his body on a TRAX platform.

Robert Earl Wallace, 45, and Moses Geng, 33, are both facing charges of murder, a first-degree felony, and obstructing justice, a second-degree felony, in connection with the death of Emmett Schad, 27.

Schad's body was found sprawled on the platform and tracks of a TRAX station at EnergySolutions Arena, 340 W. South Temple, just before midnight on July 6.

The video then shows the men walking away from the park. Wallace later confessed to police that he gave Geng a knife while the two men were still in the park.

According to charges filed in 3rd District Court, Wallace, Schad, Geng and a woman were at Pioneer Park earlier that day. The woman had a bag carrying a recently-purchased bottle of vodka, which Schad had in his possession.

"She and (Wallace and Geng) discovered Mr. Schad had left the park," the charges state. "She found her bag but it was missing the bottle of vodka."

Surveillance video showed Schad taking something from the woman's bag around 11:30 p.m. A few minutes later, Geng and the woman are shown looking through the bag and "Geng is visibly upset," according to the charges.

The video then shows the men walking away from the park. Wallace later confessed to police that he gave Geng a knife while the two men were still in the park.

"Wallace walked four blocks with Geng to find Mr. Schad," court documents state. "Wallace and Geng found Mr. Schad (at the TRAX station) … Wallace states that he observed Mr. Schad 'go down.'"

Wallace said Geng then disposed of the weapon by throwing it into a Utah Power substation on 400 West.

Following an autopsy, the state medical examiner said Schad died from a stab wound to the chest, the charges state.

A TRAX train operator found Schad's body. He told police the man was face-down with his legs in the path of the train. The train operator said he saw two men leaving the area moments before, according to court documents.

Wallace and Geng were arrested on July 28 after Salt Lake City police issued a news release asking for witnesses who may have seen the slaying to come forward.

Investigators said they were able to identify Geng based on witnesses and surveillance video from the scene.

Both Wallace and Geng — who each have the Road Home at 210 Rio Grande Street listed as their address on the charging documents — were found at Pioneer Park the night they were arrested.

According to a jail report, Wallace implicated Geng in Schad's death soon after the men were booked into jail.
