ROY — A 20-year-old Ogden man was found dead Sunday following an apparent motorcycle accident Saturday night.
The body of Nolan Stokes was found by his father Sunday morning, Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther said. Police were called to the area of 1900 West and Hinckley Drive, just on the border of Roy and West Haven, on reports of a motorcycle near the roadway around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
Roy police officers arrived on the scene and located the motorcycle.
"They didn't see anybody around the motorcycle," Lowther said. "One of the officers did see a pedestrian walking not too far away and thought maybe it was the rider. They tried to locate him and couldn't find him."
Not knowing where the motorcycle came from, the officers towed the vehicle. They were able to track down Stokes as the current, registered owner and called the man's father.
"He didn't know where his son was at, but confirmed that it was his son that had a motorocycle," Lowther said.
When the father awoke Sunday morning, he had a "bad feeling about things" and went to look around the area where the motorcycle was found. Several hundred feet from where the motorcycle was recovered, he found his son's body.
"It appears to be a single vehicle accident," Lowther said, emphasizing that the body was located a good distance from where the motorcycle was found. "We haven't concluded or excluded anything."
An investigation is underway. Lowther said the motorcycle will be checked to see if mechanical failure is to blame.
