The Davis County sheriff's office says a sinkhole is to blame for the rupture. One home exploded.

Police have begun to escort people back to their homes. They are being escorted back to their homes by Questar and fire officials. The homes are being checked with gas detectors.
Nancy Hilton, Evacuated Resident: "It rocked the house. It literally rocked the house."
Betty Clark, Evacuated Resident: "A big boom. And then almost immediately, sirens, sirens, sirens."
Police say more than 60 people are taking shelter at a nearby LDS Stake Center. The residents have spent several hours at the Stake Center already, and may have more time ahead of them as fire and gas officials check each home individually.
Lt. Brad Wilcox, Davis County Sheriff's Office: "Until the gas company can reassure us that everything is safe, turned off, peoples homes that have been evacuated are ok, then we can move people back in."
If a long stay is required, blankets and food will be provided.

Mike Berg, LDS Bishop: "She is in my ward and it was her house that exploded. I'm just glad that her family happened to have her out. It was her birthday today. They had her out for a birthday meal."
Luana Fowers, Lost home to Explosion: "They said the road buckled, and my house blew up. That's all I know."
For those at the Stake Center, officials took a roll call of sorts, to make sure they could account for everyone in the area.
Police say the blizzard like conditions have made the situation difficult.
The gas line has been turned off, and people are beginning to return to their homes.
