SALT LAKE CITY -- Many Utahns will be hitting the interstates this holiday weekend, as they travel to their recreational destinations, including places along I-80. But with ten Renovate I-80 projects currently underway, UDOT is reminding drivers to be extra careful through construction zones.
Jason Davis, the regional director for UDOT, said that the department wants people to keep their eyes focused on the road and not on the construction around them.
He asked drivers to "be aware of their surroundings, reduce their speed, just kinda follow the signs and try not to be overly aggressive through the construction zones - be safe for themselves and workers."
Going up Parley's and other canyons travellers will come across many slower moving trucks, motorhomes and other vehicles. UDOT is urging drivers NOT to make sudden lane changes when this happens. This increases the chance for a serious crash.
Above all, UDOT emphasized that drivers on I-80 need to slow down.
