SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Police say skeletal remains have been found in a vacant field near the interchange of Interstates 215 and 80.
Anthropologists working with the medical examiner's office said the man's body had been lying in the tall vegetation for about two years.
"It would not have been readily visible by passing motorists, but it was lying on the surface of the ground," Detective Dwayne Baird said Tuesday. "There's no obvious sign of death and no real obvious injury to the skeleton."
The remains were found Friday by a man collecting cans.
The body was believed to be that of a man who was white, 35 to 50 years old and 5 foot 5 to 5 foot 8. Several teeth were missing.
The man was wearing a black baseball cap with the word "Panthers" inside the letter "W," a black motorcycle T-shirt with the words "Call of the Wild" and blue Wrangler jeans.
Police said the man's description did not match that of any missing persons reports.
Homicide detectives found some papers that were stuck together near the skeleton.
"The papers were in such bad condition, but they're examining them to see if there's a name there or if they belong to this man," Detective Robin Snyder said.
