Some pediatricians are now saying if you don't vaccinate, you just aren't a good fit for their practice.

West Jordan pediatric Dr. Keith Ramsey, who does not refuse service based on vaccination status, tries to be understanding of those that will refuse, or that won't get vaccinated.

"Most people, there's no issue. But there are some people who are concerned because of things they've read or heard."

Many people believe that vaccines are related to autism, or that it is possible to get the disease being prevented from the vaccine itself.

Dr. Ramsey says education often works to alleviate any fears. He and other doctors contacted say they would rather parents come in - if they are refused coverage, patients may no longer go to any doctor.

"Vaccines are very good and we've seen a dramatic drop in any disease I can think of since a vaccine was started for that disease," he said.

Dr. Claudia Fruin practices in Davis County. She says she is seeing more people who want to delay vaccinations or do a different schedule. Others at her practice also see some parents who disagree - for example the father may be against shots but the mother is for them. But she says they don't turn anyone away - they try to work with people and educate them.

Though they do have those that still refuse to sign a waiver saying they understand the risks.

"I have a sign hanging in each of my exam rooms that says something like, ‘For those who chose not to immunize their children, please thank those that do because they are protecting you,'" she said.
