(KSL News) Is Salt Lake City seriously thinking about making another bid for the Winter Olympics? The Chamber of Commerce president says the process is already underway!
Lane Beattie, President, Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce: "Not just perhaps. We are actively working on it. We think we need to move forward."
Salt Lake Chamber President Lane Beattie told Eyewitness News in Torino that he and members of the Utah Sports Commission--the group that oversees and promotes our Olympic venues-- did have such a discussion with leaders of the United States Olympic Committee this weekend.
Lane Beattie, President, Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce: "We met with Peter Ueberoth this morning and the rest of the USOC, and made sure they knew what our intentions were, and we received a very warm reception."
It's well-known in the world Olympic community that Salt Lake's games were very successful and very well run. But, it's a long and expensive process. If it happens, it's more than a decade off for sure.
The next winter games are in 2010 in Vancouver; and the field is already getting crowded for the 2014 Olympics, with at least five cities planning to bid for the games.
