Brooke Walker ReportingA suspicious fire in a Murray storage unit has investigators trying to figure out not just what could have caused the flames, but who.
The two-alarm fire was called in around 7:00 this morning. The Murray Fire Department arrived to a lot of smoke and a lot of damage. Now, they have a lot of questions.
Several crews responded after a driver noticed smoke billowing out of the building. The warehouse, located near 4600 South and 500 West is a former lumber yard. Owners now use the building to store a variety of items, including dozens of video arcades, tools and building supplies.
That random collection made it difficult for firefighters to pinpoint exactly where the fire was.
Phil Roberts/ Murray City Fire Dept.: "In a lot of these commercial buildings, tenants come and go and so we have to do a lot of fact finding while we're on scene."
Crews had the fire out within about twenty minutes. There were no alarms or sprinklers in the warehouse to help them out. Luckily, no one was in the buildling.
The fire did destroy a bunch of the stored items inside. Damage to the actual building was minimal.
But evidence indicates this was no accident. Police believe someone may have been involved, possibly entering through an open garage door.
The owners reported a few missing items, and police already have a few suspects in mind. They plan to question those individuals tomorrow morning. We'll keep you updated on any future developments.
