(KSL News) Police arrested a Layton man. He's accused of trying to kill his wife, then lying about it.

Richard Carlson is accused of attempted murder and evidence tampering.

His 19-year-old son called 911 from a neighbor's house, saying he heard his parents fighting and his mother's muffled cries. Police called the home and Carlson said everything was fine. They suspected he was lying, went to the home and found his wife face down in a bathtub full of water.

Investigators say it appears Carlson hit her in the back of the head with a blunt object and pushed pillows in her face to smother her.

She later died.
