SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Congressman Rob Bishop says Utah needs to be aggressive about expanding its military facilities. Doing so, he told state lawmakers today, will help boost Utah's economy and head off any efforts to close or reduce the size of its bases.

Bishop says the governor, Legislature and the Congressional delegation need to cooperate on military matters important to the state. Hill Air Force Base survived the most recent round of base closures.

Strengthening Utah's military presence is one of several goals Bishop outlined today. He also wants to give states more authority and take away some powers from the federal government.
