Not all smartphone apps are for productivity purposes. It's nice to have programs that help with work or serve as reminders to do things, but sometimes a good app is needed to help with relaxation or to show friends just how 'cool' one can be.

The following applications, taken from Android and iPhone markets, will prove to many friends that one can be the coolest of the cool in any group.

FatBooth Most people want to lose weight, but this app lets a person see what they would look like if a few pounds were added to his or her frame. It has been popular on iPhone for a while but is now available for Android users. This app is a great way to show friends that one is not afraid of the future where ice cream and donuts become the daily staple. The app is loads of fun and a great motivator to keep fit.

Endomondo Sports Tracker PRO — It's fun to run, bike or ski for exercise and enjoyment, but what if it were possible to compare progress with other runners? Endomondo Sports Tracker Pro lets enthusiasts keep track of their distances as they go about their regular exercise, helps them set new goals in performance and even has an audio coach to push runners to do better. And if competition is the desire, there is an option to beat the time of other participants on a particular route. Users can also let friends watch their progress live and receive real-time pep talks for encouragement. Only 'cool' folks can have this much fun.

Family Locator Pro — Parents are constantly worried about where their children might be when not in sight. With this app, mom and dad can find the kids (as long as they have their phone) at any time without getting in the car and going out to search. So when out with friends parents can state with confidence, "I know exactly where my children are at this very moment." If that isn't 'cool', then 'cool' just isn't possible. As an added bonus, the app also lets the user know about sex offenders who live in the neighborhood.

GeoQpons — Shopping with friends can be an adventure, but with this app there is a 'wow' factor that truly approaches cool. With deals matched to a specific location, hundreds of coupons are offered every day from local business: just show the code or coupon on the phone and get the deal. This app also helps figure the discount each coupon offers and allows the user to attach a coupon to their calendar for future use. What a great way for 'cool' people to save.

MultiRemote — Imagine being in the office but not at a workstation and someone wants to see a file. How great would it be to point a smartphone at the PC and call up the exact information they are interested in seeing without moving from the comfortable chair in the break room? That's one of the things that can be done with this app. It can also program the phone to be a game controller if someone is really desperate to play games.

And just for grins, here is a bonus app that will either speak cool or drive others cuckoo!!

Rimshot Widget — It's always nice to have some notification that a joke or good comment has been made so why not emphasize with the Rimshot? This fun widget can be put on the home screen of a phone so it is always available and ready to amaze those easily impressed.
