SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State officials sent letters Friday to Hurricane Katrina refugees still living in Utah, notifying them that the Federal Emergency Management Agency will continue to reimburse the state for housing expenses past March 1.
FEMA had told the state it would stop reimbursing the state for refugees' rent and utilities on March 1. But FEMA told state officials this week that the assistance will continue indefinitely and lease agreements shouldn't be terminated until further notice.
The state is paying rent and utilities for 193 apartments for Katrina victims now living in Utah.
