HILL AIR FORCE BASE -- For the first time in nearly 70 years Hill Air Force Base has a new fire station.
It took a few tries, but dignitaries cut the ribbon to the new fire-fighting facility on the base's east side Tuesday.
Congressman Rob Bishop said the station is much more than an earmark. He and other officials say it will dramatically reduce the response time to a fire or medical emergency by at least four or five minutes. The new station is also LEED gold certified.
Patrick Vega, assistant chief at Hill Air Force Base, said, "We can put geothermal pumps in. We can put in solar panels. That's going to save in the long run.
The firefighters say they're also excited about having a workout room, the kitchen and air conditioning that works.
