SALT LAKE CITY -- You may have noticed, earlier this week, letter carriers delivered a plastic bag with your mail.
Well, post offices across the state were busy Saturday, not only delivering mail, but picking up thousands of pounds of food for the annual Stamp Out Hunger event.
All the food was taken to the Utah Food Bank and other emergency shelters throughout Utah.
"Just over the last year, we've seen over a 40 percent increase in the families coming to receive emergency food assistance," said Jim Pugh, CEO of the Utah Food Bank. "So donations like this are critical today. Even more than in times past."
Last year they collected 800,000 pounds of food. This year they hope to top that with one million pounds of food.
