(NBC News) -- Wasps could one day replace dogs to sniff out bombs.

Researchers at the University of Georgia say a small stinger-less wasp is on the same level as dogs when it comes to its sense of smell.

Bomb Sniffing Wasps?

Researchers showed how it works with coffee.

Thoris Green, University of Georgia Researchers: "...She smells the....the coffee while she's feeding...and then um after feeding three times, she's trained to the coffee smell."

In five minutes, the wasps are trained to identify coffee.

Researchers say the wasps could one day be used to detect mines, find drugs, skin cancer and even poisons in food.
