Sandra Yi ReportingSandy Police are asking for help finding the burglars who did more than just steal from the victim.
Carl Spencer: "When I came home, this gate was completely open. This gate was open just a little bit. About this much. And the footprints came right down the snow."
Carl Spencer wasn't prepared for what he saw next.
Carl Spencer: "My dog was laying in a pool of blood on the side of the entrance to the garage door."
Sadie, his seven-year old Doberman, lay dead. Police believe someone beat it with a sledgehammer.
Carl Spencer: "It was bad, it was bad. I thought somebody came and shot my dog, is exactly what I thought."
But there was more to what happened.
Carl Spencer: "I saw a lot of tools missing, lawn equipment was missing."
The missing items include a lawn mower, nail guns and a generator -- all of it totaling between 14 and 18 thousand dollars.
Carl Spencer: "It's bad that people work their whole lives to get something, and it only takes a minute for someone to take it away."
Spencer knows the tools can be replaced, but not his beloved pet.
Carl Spencer: "She was uh, we loved her. It was hard."
All he hopes for is justice.
Carl Spencer: "Se are offering a reward if they find them."
The family is offering a thousand dollar reward and they hope to increase the amount. Police believe there is more than one suspect. If you have any information on this case, call Sandy Police.
