SALT LAKE CITY -- Last November, the Utes squeaked by the Cougars on a blocked field goal attempt to win the traditional rivalry football game between the two schools.
Today, mayors Ralph Becker of Salt Lake City and John Curtis of Provo joined in on the annual "Rivalry Bike Ride" charity event.
We use it as the chance to highlight the need to give donations to the food bank. Every year we've exceeded the amount that's been contributed by both of our communities.

Each year, the mayors join in on a friendly competition, representing their respective teams during the big game. The losing mayor has to bike from his city hall to the winner's.
However, like today, the two mayors always end up riding together, with other cyclists joining in on the fun.
"We don't bet in Utah," said Becker. "We've had a friendly competition."
The event has become an annual tradition between the two mayors, with the Utah Food Bank acting as a benefactor of the event.
"We use it as the chance to highlight the need to give donations to the food bank," said Becker. "Every year we've exceeded the amount that's been contributed by both of our communities."
Even though the Utes and Cougars have changed conferences, the two mayors are committed to keep the rivalry alive, saying that this fund raising event will continue.
