PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Brigham Young University broadcast journalism students recently took home top honors in a prestigious national competition.
Students won first place in the Hearst Journalism Awards Program.
BYU beat out several universities in the country to claim what some say is the Academy Award of student broadcasting awards.
Four of BYU's six students who submitted stories this year also won awards. Ryan McIlvain place third in the radio category, while Danielle Wood place fourth.
In the television category, Jamie Cook placed seventh.
Professors say there's really nothing else equivalent to show the best broadcast news students in the nation.
BYU finished in second place in the last two Hearst competitions.
