Brooke Walker Reporting A bicycle accident claimed the life of a Provo man this morning. Police say Eli Miller was on his way to work when he was hit not once, but twice.
It's something Miller did every day, load up his bike and head to work. He only lived a few blocks away, a short ride, but one that today he would not complete.
Capt. Rick Healy, Provo Police Dept.: “At some point, a male in his late thirties is hit by a Blazer.”
That first impact threw 38-year old Miller off his bike. Police say a Frito truck, heading South on University Avenue, then ran him over a second time. The combination of those two crashes proved to be fatal; Miller was pronounced dead at the scene.
This all happened just before 6:00 in the morning. Police acknowledge visibility was a problem. Both drivers say they didn't even see Miller in the roadway. He was not riding in a crosswalk.
Because of the accident, police closed both southbound lanes for a couple of hours. They re-opened just before nine o'clock this morning.
The victim worked at a local fence making company in Provo. A co-worker told us Miller had only worked there a few weeks, but that everyone was saddened by the news. Police say the family has been very gracious toward the two drivers. It’s no doubt, a painful day for everyone involved.
