Keith McCord ReportingYesterday, the three final designs for Utah's new quarter were unveiled. The designs were the result of five-thousand different ideas submitted by the public during the past year-and-a-half. So, which of the three do you like best?
As we told you, the public is playing a big part in the design of our new quarter. The designs that First Lady Mary Kaye Huntsman unveiled yesterday were drawn up by artists at the U.S. Mint. Utahns will have a chance to weigh in on these during a public comment period beginning March 1st, but we didn't want to wait that long so we conducted a poll and we got several thousand votes.
Forty-four percent of you like the Golden Spike and the locomotives, a significant historical event in Utah of course. Second choice, and not that far behind, is the Beehive design with 35% of those who voted choosing that one. Trailing far behind is the snowboarder with 17%. Four percent said they didn't like any of the designs.
Governor Huntsman will make the final choice, probably in the late spring. The quarter will go into production later this year and will be released in late 2007.
