MILLCREEK — Police are looking for a man who turned a car dealership test drive into a carjacking.
Friday, the carjacker — a white man around 30, described as clean cut with bleached blond hair, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 165 pounds wearing a brown leather jacket with Levi's — pulled into the Exclusive Cars dealership at 40 E. 3300 South and asked to test drive a 2007 BMW M5.
The man and a salesman got into the vehicle and began driving east on I-80 up Parley's Canyon, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. When they got near Rose Sachs Garden, the man exited the freeway to turn around and return back down the canyon.
Hoyal said he reached behind him in the car, telling the salesman he needed to retrieve his phone, but instead pulled out a gun.
"(The carjacker) points it at the dealer and tells him to get out," Hoyal said. "He tells the dealer to 'go tell on me,' so the dealer complies with the suspect and goes to tell on him. He goes to summon help."
The salesman did not see whether the man continued east into the canyon or headed west.
The car has a dealership license plate with the number 4061026. Anyone with information has been asked to call police at 801-743-7000.
"He is considered armed and dangerous," Hoyal said.
Hoyal noted that the man drove to the dealership in a blue Mini Cooper that was apparently stolen from Washington, D.C., a couple of years ago.
