Gene Kennedy Reporting It seemed like a routine call-- a noise complaint at a West Valley apartment. But when a K-9 officer went to shut down a party, the tenant refused to cooperate and instead put up a fight.
Around 4 am the officer showed up at 4100 S. Redwood Road and asked a tenant to end his private party. The tenant said something to the effect of "well, only if you say please." Then, it went beyond a smart comment and turned into a fight.
The officer was hit in the head. He signalled for help, and police from all over the valley flocked to the area to assist. The officer went to the hospital, but he has been released and is still on duty.
Police are booking the tenant into jail this morning on multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct.
Investigators are not releasing the tenant's name, but are trying to get a search warrant to go back into his apartment after they say they saw drug paraphenelia.
Meantime, the apartment complex may be evicting the tenant as a result of this.
Fortunately, the officer wasn't hurt too badly, but what shocks his colleagues is that this police officer is a soft-spoken and considerate person... in one lieutenant's words, "West Valley's finest."
