(KSL News) The scent of smoke woke up an elderly gentleman early this morning, potentially saving his apartment complex.
The man then saw smoke and called 911 about 2:30 this morning.
Crews arrived quickly and put out the flames, but they had to tear out part of the floor to do so.
Officials said, "When they opened it up, dug a hole in the floor, the flames came up. It just poured out. There was a lot of smoke there."
Crews say the fire started in the floor, but they don't know how or why. They are considering this somewhat suspicious. They estimate that there's 10-thousand dollars in damage to the apartment, with minimal smoke damage to the upstairs apartments.
