MAGNA -- Kyra Alvey is a straight-A student at Brockbank Junior High in Magna, co-captain of her cheer squad, and volunteers every week to teach preschool students how to dance. But that's not why Tonya Alvey nominated her daughter for a KSL High 5.

Tonya is impressed with her daughter's work ethic, sweetness, and how she doesn't let anything get her down.
A freak accident recently threatened to keep Kyra from competing in dance and cheer for the rest of the year.
"I was running for cheer and one of my friends tossed a pencil as I was in mid-stride and it hit my calf and shoved it up into my thigh," Kyra explained. "I was just in shock and I was yelling at everyone that it was stuck."
Kyra underwent surgery to remove the pencil. She spent a month on the couch and hours of rehab to get her leg back to normal.
She did it, and continues to dance and cheer. Cheer advisor Jamie Parry said, "She does such a great job. She works very, very, very hard to do everything she's supposed to do always."
As a thank you, Kyra received a special song by Alex Boye and a gift basket from our High 5 partners, Les Schwab. To nominate someone for a High 5, click here.
