Brooke Walker Reporting Within the heart of every little girl lies the dream of being a princess. Well, watch out Cinderella, because for one Orem seven-year old, today that dream came true.
When Katie Werrett heard about a contest to design the perfect dress, she put the crayons to work. When she learned her sketch was one of only three that had been chosen, you could say she was tickled pink!
Today brought a special delivery, by description, a perfect delivery. It was the perfect dress, custom designed by Katie, for Katie. It has one motif in mind -- think pink!
In December, Katie entered a national contest, inspired by a new children's book about a girl looking for the perfect dress. New York based dressmaking company, Bonnie Jean, invited girls nationwide to sketch their dream dress. Thousands of designs were submitted and three of those drawings were brought to life.
Katie Werrett, Won contest: "I thought that this was just a dream, but my mom told me I won this contest."
Amy Werrett, Katie's mother: "I said, 'You get to have your dress made,' and her eyes lit up getting this dress made."
Katie's mom says she knew her little princess could pull it off; she says Katie loves to draw and loves dresses.
Amy Werrett: "We've always had to fight with her in the winter because all she want to do is wear dresses. We're like, 'It's too cold, you have to wear pants.'"
Looking ahead, Katie's parents say now the standard is high, they're already worried about prom. But Katie's worried about more important things, like perfecting her curtsy and her waltz, because princess is as princess does, which makes today a happily ever after.
