AM 820's Dr. Liz Hale ReportingThis week marks Healthy Weight Week and there is a new movement emerging to help us deal with the weight and eating crisis. Nutrition and health experts call it a "Health at Any Size" revolution.
Studies show that half of American women overestimate the size of their bodies. It's time to stop dieting for good and get on with living our lives in healthy ways.
Jenelle Vargas: "Everybody has things they don't like about themselves, but I'm pretty happy with the way I look."
Health At Any Size is an approach that focuses on health and well-being, not weight. It reaffirms the truth that beauty, health and strength come in all sizes. Dove turned heads this past summer, using real women to sell its firming cream on billboards and in magazines instead of super skinny models. The ad won the Women's Diversity Award and many hope the campaign for real beauty catches on.
Jackson Bellis: "I think a lot of people strive for that appearance, which is very hard to do; and for me, I think the stereotypical body is a little unhealthy"
There are four guiding principles that will help us make the shift to Health at any size.
Health At Any Size
- Eat well.
- Live actively.
- Feel good about others.
- Feel good about yourself.
Live your "real life" now, free yourself from that horrendous negative self-talk, and reduce your stress and anxiety.
