SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Las Vegas company is purchasing the assets of bankrupt SCO Group including the Unix operating system.
UnXis says in a news release the sale of SCO assets finalized Monday also includes about 32,000 existing service contracts.
Unix is used by many corporations as their server operating system.
Lindon, Utah-based SCO Group filed bankruptcy in 2007 after years of litigation with Novell Inc. and IBM about the use of Unix code in the open source Linux operating system.
A federal jury ruled in favor of Novell in 2010 but the ruling has been appealed to the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver.
The ongoing litigation isn't changed by the UnXis purchase.
UnXis chief executive Richard Bolandz says the company will focus on improving the Unix operating system.
