WEST VALLEY CITY -- A West Valley man died Monday evening after he was shot by police officers responding to a domestic disturbance call.

The officers arrived at 3319 S. 5180 West around 5:30 p.m. As they approached the house they encountered an adult male in the front yard.

"During that encounter, more than one officer fired his duty weapon and the adult male was struck by the officer's gunfire," said West Valley Police Sgt. Mike Powell.

Few other details were released. Powell said a gun was found in the yard following the shooting. No officers were injured.

The man, identified as 23-year-old Sean Krummi, was transported to a hospital in critical condition. He has since died from his injuries.

"The neighborhood was fairly busy, so there are obviously individuals who were hearing what was going on; and those people are being spoken to by the detectives," Powell said.

One woman said the shooting scared the neighborhood.

"We were standing in our kitchen and we heard, 'Pop! Pop! Pop!' and I ran to our window and all you could see was an officer pointing his gun toward the house," the woman said. "Everyone here has kids who are out here all of the time. That's what's really scary. The kids play out here and there was no forewarning."

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is fully investigated.
